The English House in Gdansk, Poland

The English House in Gdansk.

But why English? Hundreds of English merchants and brokers lived in Gdansk for centuries. They traded with grain, oak and famous Danziger Joppenbier.

Many English residents rented some of the exceptionally large (as for the city centre) rooms in English House for warehousing purposes. Even in the mid-16th century, there existed a chapel frequented by English visitors. The English House is one of many remains of English heritage in Gdansk. Nowadays The English House is The Academy of Fine Arts students dormitory.
